Today's bake

Apple Strudel of course.  I wish I could say I made my own filo pastry but I didn't.  Mother-in-law used to, but she was never able to teach me the knack.  Or fairer to say, I never learned the knack despite her best efforts.

I got this recipe from Rick Stein (who else?) except that I used Granny Smith apples, not Bramleys (because we can't get them, except rarely at certain times of the year), and I didn't add sugar, because GS's are sweet enough.

Pretty obviously we watched R. Stein in Vienna the other night, so tonight's dinner is going to be Wiener schnitzel cooked in clarified butter a la Rick, and potato salad, which will be a mix of Mother-in_laws and Mr. Steins.  And a very good Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc.
