Rama Dama

On 29th October 1949, Munich's mayor called for the public to clear up the city from some of the remaining debris of WWII bombardment - "Räumen tun wir" - "We are cleaning up" which in Bavarian becomes Rama dama. 15,000m³ were collected that day. There are countless videos of the immediate post-war cleaning up in Germany, much done by women - alone in Berlin 50,000 women were involved.

Such was the damage to Munich that initially there were thoughts of abandoning it and building a new city on the unbuilt area to the south.

Today Franz returned with tractor & winch to clear up the trees that had fallen on our electricity line a year ago. There is some doubt as to whose property they were originally standing on but they had, for the most part, landed on or very close to ours. However, we can't get to this part of the property with vehicles as a stream cuts it off. Out of courtesy Franz asked the farmer who rents the field we need to drive over if it was OK.

Eventually pulled out two massive trunks & tomorrow will collect them with a trailer & front loader, I then spent hours in & around the stream trying to clear the mass of branches that were hanging in & over the stream & resulting in almost a beaver perfect dam -extra photo.
