Studio Lighting Course - Session 2

Tonight for me (Chris) it was session two of my camera club studio lighting workshop.

It has been two weeks since the first session where we basically got familiar with the hardware and triggering. This week we set up multiple rigs, each with a single light but different modifiers (beauty dish, reflector, honey comb, shoot through umbrella etc.). The idea was to move from rig to rig and with the simple setup, learn about placement of the light source and how the modifier altered the lighting.

Intially it was bewildering, there seemed to be so many variables to consider. Thankfully most people felt the same way and that wasn't going to change without getting stuck in so we did. We had a collection of willing models so we also got the chance to learn from them and deal with male and female subjects and a variety of outfits! Photographing people has always been a weak area for me but this is certainly going to move that forward. Tonight's blip is one of my more successful shots, thanks to model Laura who was especially patient with us!

Next time (two weeks time) it's high key images. So much still to learn.
