Strange growing things

Until today I had never looked lichen up on wikipedia. I had taken for granted it was just a kind of small plant. BUT (of course) I was wrong - lichen is a much stranger beast altogether! It is a 'composite organism' consisting of a fungus and an algae growing together in a symbiotic relationship. Check it out.

Sidenote: I don't know for sure that this yellow fellow is a lichen, perhaps s/he is a fungus? Don't want to misrepresent.
