Crab & Winkle line

This is the first railway line in Britain which ran from Whitstable to Canterbury, mainly for bringing coal from the harbour. Later schoolchildren travelled to school on it. We had a lovely walk along it today (Saturday)a rural idyll though there are houses on one side of the raised bank and a school on the other. In the school grounds is a tunnel under the hill now a habitat for bats, UKC was advised they could built on top of the tunnel but there was a collapse and a building was  damaged but no people fortunately. Stephenson's Invicta engine is preserved in Whitstable Museum.
