Postcards From Mabel #20

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Known as the Escadaria Selaron, these 215 amazingly colourful steps form a stairway linking two neighbourhoods in Rio.  They are decorated with over 2000 tiles collected from over 60 countries around the world by the Chilean artist Jorge Selaron who lived in this part of Rio until his untimely death in 2013.  According to Wikipedia, the stairs have "featured in many famous magazines, newspapers, travel shows, documentaries and commercials. National Geographic Channel, American Express, Coca-Cola, Kellogg's Corn Flakes, Time and Playboy are just some of the media that the steps have appeared in/on. It has also featured in numerous music videos such as Snoop Dogg's Beautiful  as well as U2  also filming there. It is considered an iconic tourist attraction of Rio de Janeiro with travellers from across the globe visiting it every day."

It was quite the workout to climb all those steps with my short legs, I can tell you.

Love,
Mabel
