Wont

When I finally shut down my laptop this evening I enjoyed strolling around Mill Road cemetery. It was peaceful, as cemeteries are wont to be. Cemeteries are not a natural destination for chilling out, are they, yet over the years this cemetery has been the location of some excellent bench-sitting to enjoy a Portuguese custard tart, or crouching in the rain under a yew tree to plan a cycling holiday. Hurrah that bench-sitting will be officially sanctioned once again from Wednesday.

I wonder what Lydia Stearn’s story is. It’s a remarkably well-preserved gravestone if she died in 1857.
