Crocus biflorus

A day off with added sunshine!

A chance to do some work outside but first a tour of the greenhouse and frame to see what else is enjoying the sunshine. First photo of the day was this one. Other crocus, iris, narcissus and snowdrops could not compete with this little gem.

Crocus biflorus is an aggregate of infinitely variable subspecies. This one might be subspecies nubigena but without knowing exactly where it grows in the mountains of Turkey, I will probably never know for sure! Raised from seed, it is doing well in my greenhouse bulb bed where it gets shelter from the worst of the weather.
