Lorna's father in World War I uniform

By 13th May 1940 Lorna's father Albert had been away at war for almost a week (having left under sealed orders on 7th). The family did not know when to expect him home again.

We don't have a contemporary photograph of Lorna's father in uniform, but we do have this one from some time between 1919 and 1921. It was taken in Northern France, not far from the Belgium border.

We found this picture in a (new to us) album amongst a series of pictures that also includes shots of Lorna aged 6. This confirms our earlier suspicion that Lorna visited the World War I battlefields when very small, and helps us make more sense of her poem 'The battlefields of France'.
