I am camera

Woman at the market, near Huancayo, Peru, 1987

This is a typical Peruvian produce market, with things put out on blankets to be sold. Both the selling and the buying is being done by women. The lady in the middle had a great hat, and I don't know of you can see, but she is smiling at me. People were so nice to us in these little places. The extra shot is of two girls in the village of Cochas, where they decorate gourds. I had to work really hard to get them to laugh, or in one case, make a bashful smile.
