Mountain Ash, Rowan or Rodden Tree.?

Whatever name they go by Rowans were traditionally thought to have magic powers and were planted near house doors to ward off evil spirits and witches. A Rowan branch might be hung over the byre door to protect the cattle. A necklace of Rowan berries protected the wearer. The heavy wood was favoured for making wheels and flooring. A preserve, rich in vitamin C, could be made from the berries.

The sweet scented creamy blossom has just come into flower here in the Aberdeenshire.
