Lilac

Sweet fragrant scent,
From delicate blooms,
Memories encircle,
Of when darkness loomed.
Of that silent beast,
That stole you away.
That ripped from my arms,
The warmth of my day.
Nearly 8 years have passed,
Since you took your last breath,
I try to reclaim,
The part that's bereft.
Purple pale lilac,
Reminds me of you,
Each year, new growth,
Flowering anew.
A poor substitute,
It stands in your place,
Filling the air,
Its perfume; fine lace.
Tiny and precious,
You stay in my heart.
No longer with me,
But never apart.
