Grey Seal

A cycle and walk to Scapa and the west cliffs. This grey seal was one of about 14 - some hauled out and others in the sea watching some men dig for bait, just as this one is watching the activity. I don't recall seeing so many greys at that point before. Elton John would have loved it.
The bird activity was good too- amongst others- a bonxie pursuing red-breasted mergansers, a male hen harrier and three grey wagtails on the burn at Scapa distillery- not uncommon on mainland streams and rivers, they are quite infrequent here on Orkney.
