Life through my eyes

Why so glum Eyeore?

Last night the news broke that the controversial advisor to the PM had “flouted” the lockdown rules.  Having sprinted out of Downing Street in March, allegedly with Covid-19 it emerged that his wife was symptomatic and in case he got it he decided he needed to drive 260 miles from London to family in Durham in case he needed childcare. Now I am fairly certain when the general public asked at the start of the lockdown they were told no, as soon as they had symptoms they should not leave their house.

Even more conveniently the Deputy CMO added on April 10th that travelling for childcare was an exceptional excuse to break the rules, and surprise surprise that was the day The Guardian newspaper approached Downing Street for clarification.

The police must be lying too as according to Cummings there was no investigation however the police issued a statement that they had spoken to certain people to remind them of the rules.

So even if it was “OK” for him to go there, how was his return to London also an essential journey?

While the vast majority of the public, 86% of adults, and 14% who have not left their home have managed to cope it seems the people behind the rules don’t have to comply with them.

I now have zero respect for this government and their handling of the pandemic. It seems there are many “lies” surrounding this and other events that are dressed up as “following the science”.

This is just wrong on every level and he hasn’t even had the decency to resign, neither did we see the PM at the Downing Street briefing today. In fact we have barely seen him since he returned from his illness.

Perhaps the next slogan should be:

Don’t stay home, Infect others, Risk lives.

Maybe now we know what Stay alert means - look out for people who think their rules don’t apply to them!

Rant over!
