Derelict brick kiln, detail, Sydney Park

Sydney Park just keeps giving for inner west Sydney blippers. You would have seen plenty of photos of the giant chimneys, reflected, silhouetted, wide angled and more. There are three large kilns which are gradually falling into disrepair and are considered a danger to get close to (see extra). These kilns could otherwise be used for interesting things and in 2010 they were, for the Stephen Vitiello exhibition, The Sound of Red Earth, made possible by art collector and philanthropist John Kaldor. John Kaldor was also responsible for commissioning Christo and Jeanne-Claude's wrapping of Little Bay, Sydney, in 1969.

The kilns were abuzz in 2010. I was a volunteer on the project and the locals had high hopes for the kilns' future. It didn't turn out that way, and once the party was over, it really was over.

Sydney Park remains a great place with an interesting history. It was a brickworks until 1970, after which it was a big hole in the ground. After much landfill and landscaping, it gradually became the park.

Thanks for hosting Marlieske.

Stay well blippers.
