Lathyrus Odoratus

Smalls

A pairing of Small White butterflies. They flew past me before crash landing on this bramble. In the early 18th century Petiver called these the Lesser White Cabbage butterfly. They were later ascribed various names including the Small Cabbage, the Small White Cabbage and even the Turnip.

Much more exciting was my first sighting of a newly emerged Emperor dragonfly (female). I don't think I've ever seen one in May before. It landed right in front of me, in long grass, and I couldn't get a clear view to photograph it before it was off.
