Lotus corniculatus

This familiar wee plant of dry grassland has many local names in the British Isles, all of them in some way descriptive. These include bird's foot trefoil, eggs and bacon, Dutch man's clogs, Cuckoo's stocking and best of all Granny's toenails. It is the food plant for several species of caterpillar including the Common blue, Green Hairstreak and Dingy Skipper.
