Then and Now

On the wall of a restaurant in Austria is an old photograph of a Telemarking skier. It's the image at the top of this montage. It was taken in the 1930s. He's wearing leather boots, has no bindings as such and his skis are very long. He has remarkable balance. Below is Stephen, telemarking in 2013. He has soft boots & bindings but equally long skis. He is balletic, balanced and rather beautiful. It is a lovely way to ski and one that not many people could master. I'm glad I get to see it.
