good morning canary

a sad saturday

today there has been a tragic loss of life and some life changing injuries because young men think it's a hoot to tombstone (yep. tombstone - an apt word) off Durdle Door.

what makes it even worse is the baying of the people on the beach urging them to jump. (do you remember the film The Accused starring Jodie Foster?) egging people on to rape or jump is a crime.

vital emergency services
2 helicopters
several ambulances
5 police cars
the coastguard

have been diverted from caring for the ordinary residents of the area so they can deal with self inflicted injuries.  these boy/men will have had to climb up there, breaching the Lulworth Estate's signs and fences.

update
the earliest reports of a fatality were wrong, thankfully.
he was dead when pulled out of the water, but a team of 4 women administered CPR and managed to revive him after 15 minutes.
he has a broken back and who knows what brain function.
4 young men jumped and have very serious injuries,
1 of them is fighting for his life.
1 woman broke her ankle.  all had to be airlifted.
1 cardiac event.
there were alcohol fuelled scuffles and a fire due to a bbq.
the majority of the tourists obeyed directions to clear space
for the helicopters to land, but some did not.
last night all roads to Lulworth & DD were closed.
they were supposed to be closed today, but apparently the
car parks started filling up by 5.00 am.
videos and photos taken by local residents show streams of
cars with loud music blaring coming into Lulworth, and the
roads at Durdle Door are pretty much gridlocked.

update of the update
the young man who broke his back didn't make it.
it has not been publicised because his family in Poland haven't been located yet.
