LD 69 Newly noticed

Well over 20 years ago (we have been at Feorlean for 28 this year) we decided to plant a wee shelter belt at the back of the house.  That faces north and was the the only direction from which we got a wind that did any damage .

Fortuitously we then discovered that a local tree nursery was planning to throw out some old stock that it could not sell and we were allowed to take quite a few of them though some had no labels and the nursery didn’t know what they might be.

This has meant that over the years we have had a few pleasant surprises as we see new things we didn’t know were there.

This was one of those days as I suddenly noticed at the very top of a tree a red flower and then - looking more closely - a few more.   Neither Cathleen nor I had noticed anything like that before in that location so we looked more closely and then did some investigating.

It turns out we have at least one , and possibly two, red horse chestnut trees  right up in the corner of the new woodland.

We are also looking more closely at what is now a nice little shaded area because we are slowly getting rid of the brambles that were once a problem and intend to strim a couple of paths through it.
