Bienvenue à Amiens!

So today I went on a suspiciously easy train journey to visit my gorgeous friend Clare although she'll never let me say that in Amiens. This is her, pictured in the bar we ended up in at the end of the night (excuse the massively high ISO, the place was practically black and I'm not a fan of using flash on portraits!). Clare is also a student of English and French, and with Beth (who we are meeting up with tomorrow) we three make up 3/16ths of the number of people who study our specific subject at Warwick. Now what can I say about Clare, well, I have known her from pretty much the first week of university and we've been friends since then. We've had many a good night, and many a complain over a good bottle or two of wine...so we didn't break tradition! With wine being so cheap in France, there is no reason not to, right? So comme l'habitude, we had a bottle of wine and a very long catch-up at Clare's before going out for a meal with Sasha, Felicity and Laurel at a very cute bagel restaurant. It's nice to see that, as in Caen, a little foreign influence is starting to leak into the bigger cities of France...it is really nice to have something a little bit different every once in a while! After a pichet of wine at the restaurant, it only seemed logical to head off to their local bar...Irish themed, but with actual Irish people behind the bar! Obviously that meant that I started speaking to them primarily in French after a few more drinks, discussing whether there was a drink traditional to Amiens, like the plethora of those of Caen...turns out that there aren't, but I did get given some cervoise for the conversation! Clare and I stayed a bit longer at the bar than the others, and getting home was hilarious...god knows what time we actually got to bed!

Such a fun evening and cannot wait to see Amiens properly tomorrow! Expectation: a rather large gueule de bois made better by playing the tourist and getting to see Beth.
