Brown Hare

I'm seeing a lot of these around just now. I walked out to the Head of Holland and saw about 8 hares. The name has no connection with Holland- it is a corruption on 'Hoyland' meaning 'high land' with the 'hoy' part coming from Old Norse. The hilliest island in Orkney is Hoy. This hare was loping down the track toward me and I got a few shots before he stopped. He wasn't sure I was actually there when he stopped, he looked a bit doubtful, then turned into the adjacent field. I say 'he' but I wonder if this is actually a pregnant female. The extra shows the Bay of Meil.
