Juukan Gorge rock shelters

An outcry continues about the destruction last weekend of two rock shelters in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, by mining giant Rio Tinto. The shelters were of tremendous importance to the Aboriginal owners and showed evidence of human occupation over 45,000 years.

The photo gives a glimpse of this ancient Pilbara country. It was taken on our visit to the Hammersley Gorge in 2009.
