A visit to the beach

Today we had our first outing since lockdown began 11 weeks ago. We went to the beach! Since lockdown restrictions have been eased the beach at West Witterings has opened up again but you have to pre-book and pre-pay for parking, as they only allow a limited number of cars to visit so as to control the numbers there.

Gavin and I left home after breakfast and there was no traffic so we got there in about 1 hour and 20 minutes. It was so beautiful there - sunny, not windy, and not at all crowded. It was the first time Xena has seen the sea and she loved it, although she still would not go in and swim. At one point we crossed an inlet and were up to our knees in water, and we thought she would follow and have  a paddle but no, the clever dog looked up the beach and found a dry area where she could jump over the dividing groyne so she would not have to get wet! I have also added some extras.

We did not stay that long, as we needed to get back and make lunch as Gavin and Luke had a round of golf booked for the early afternoon.

I don't know what to think about the protests taking place throughout the UK to support Black Lives Matter as a consequence of the death of George Floyd and many others. While I fully agree with the cause and it's importance, I still think that during a pandemic when the protesters are clearly not maintaining a social distance it could end up causing a spike in infections and thereby cause the death of many others. And dare I say it but I also feel that some people are protesting because it is the cool thing to do and they are bored with being in lockdown. These are probably the same people who clapped for the NHS every Thursday night with a smug and sanctimonious look on their faces, and yet what are they doing now, putting lives at risk? When I asked my boys what they thought about it, Adam said if people can go to the beach/beauty spots and not maintain social distancing then surely they can protest? But my point is they cannot legally do either.
