Water tower

The water tower of Schimmert, nicknamed the Giant of Schimmert, is a 38-meter high water tower in Schimmert in the municipality of Beekdaelen in the Dutch province of Limburg. The water tower is located at the core of Schimmert. The tower dates from 1927 and was designed by architect Jos Wielders, who was inspired by the architecture of the Amsterdam School.

Until the Second World War, there was a restaurant at the top of the tower: "Oranje Restaurant". The tower was renovated in the 1970s and 90s of the 20th century and recently in late 2008. Since May 29, 1997, the tower has the status of a national monument. WML (Water Supply Company Limburg) sold the tower in 2015 to the Schimmert entrepreneur Nico Eurelings. It wants to make it a data center for sustainable energy and make the tower more accessible for tourism and cultural events.
