River of Flowers

By doffy

Sunday: #30DaysWild Wildlife Garden ...

... where there’s always something in flower, a stumpery where small creatures can hide or just get some shade, the birds like scratching around amongst the plants and there’s no one to frighten them.
Today’s job was to create a bed for some courgettes. I decided that a sheltered spot near the shed would be best.
Old compost bags flattened out for the base, a low wall of dry bricks to hold everything together, layer of shrub cuttings, coarse compost, layer of fresh homemade compost from the bins then a layer of grass clippings as a mulch over everything, a good watering and job done!
Took a photo then put some plastic trays to prevent cats digging everything up! See extra photo, there’s a courgette plant in a large terracotta pot planted a few days ago, 2 embryo fruit just appearing - hope the slugs don’t see them!
It’s been very chilly all day, except when we’ve had the cloud breaking and a little warm sunshine, no wind though and no rain.
Stay safe & healthy and happy everyone :-)
Nos da pawb / goodnight all xx
