Chequered Hog

The Large Skipper is another of Petiver's 'hogs'. He initially (1704) suggested the Chequered Hog and then the Cloudy Hog. More than a hundred years later it was being called the Wood Skipper (1819) or Clouded Skipper (1832). But, the name which stuck- Large Skipper - was coined by Moses Harris in The Aurelian (1766). 

I added Marbled White as the 27th species on my list this morning.
