Can't resist a spider mum with her cocoon full of babies. When the time comes she will lay her burden down and prepare a 'nursery web'. She will continue to guard her brood after the babies have hatched. No shared parenting here, in fact the dad has to feign death in order to avoid the female making a meal of him before mating.

Another successful mother is Bear 339, a 24 year old grizzly who has just emerged from hibernation in the Yellowstone National Park - with 4 cubs in tow. She's  become famous over the years for her  fertility and her peaceful temperament and she's now thought to be unique in rearing such a large litter at such an advanced age. Pictures here:
