Slugs

Noticed hundreds of these black slugs on the hill path this morning and wondered why the birds weren't gorging themselves and discovered they produce an unappetising mucus to deter predators. Was facinated to see the fine markings of these and this red or brown slug I found later under a flower pot as shown in the extra. 
You might say it's been a sluggish sort of day.
