Reds in the garden today

and the three stages of the ladybird after hatching from the egg - many people wonder what the 1/2 inch black insect with orange spots is.   You'll find them wherever there are aphids for that is their main food.  It seems as if it is a great year for ladybirds so I wonder if it will be like 1977 when they were so numerous and it was was so dry they flew out to sea and then were washed back on shore in great mounds.  Women wearing yellow bathing suits were 'attacked' as the ladybirds pinched them between their (ladybird) knees.  People thought they were being bitten but the poor ladybirds were after liquid.  I've never heard  why yellow suits were preferred to red, green or blue.
