Day 85 A new perspective

A busy Saturday today. Chris and I updated our phone contracts this morning and I also did an hour on the bike before heading to the shop as all the bread was mouldy.
In the afternoon we headed into town again to do a walk that my friend had recommended. We started by walking down Water Lane in Frankwell to pick up the path by the side of the river. We've never been on this before and it was lovely to see the Welsh Bridge from a new perspective. We followed the path under the bridge, by the side of Theatre Severn and then under the footbridge and around the carpark. When we got into the field behind Frankwell carpark we found the path again and continued to walk by the river. It was interesting to see Coton Hill from the other side of the river and there are some beautiful houses there. We then walked through fields along the river path and saw lots of people on boats and some were even swimming in the river further around where the river was really shallow. I was surprised and worried by how many people were in large groups without any social distancing, mainly youngsters. They were drinking and sunbathing and seemed to have forgotten about coronavirus. We could see the Mount over the other side of the fields and after going up some steep steps and through dark, damp woods with a big marshy pond that looked like it might still have dinosaurs in it (!) we came out by Shelton water tower. We headed home and got back just in time for the Sainsbury's delivery. In total it was 6 1/2 miles and was my favourite walk so far. I love discovering more of this beautiful town.
In the news, single people were able to join another bubble to stay the night and they don't need to social distance. There was violence in London when suspected far right groups clashed with police in London after turning up to defend statues that anti racism demonstrators had defaced the previous weekend. One of these included Churchill's statue that had been boarded up to protect it.
