Killdeer

At the Fort River Refuge early this morning, on the edge of the parking lot as we arrived (unfortunately it flew in a couple of minutes and never presented a better angle).  Killdeers  are shorebirds, a species in the plover family; they're thus very unusual in our area (although more likely than most shorebirds to be found away from water).  Another pleasant early summer day.
