Meet Molly

It was wonderful to be able to shop in our independent department store Baker & Larners again today after the lockdown.  B&L is such an important part of our town and community and it was upsetting to see it closed and empty.  The staff welcomed us back today and this is even more special as they are celebrating their 250th anniversary this year.

In their window today was this 1.6m owl, affectionately known as ‘Molly Morston Owl’ which has been painted by our famous local artist Keiron Williamson (known as the ‘Mini-Monet’ as he was selling his paintings when he was just a child https://kieronwilliamson.com).
Keiron has painted a sunset scene of Morston Quay onto the owl in order to support East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) which is Baker & Larner’s charity of the year.  The staff at the store have committed to raising £25,000 for EACH this year and the owl will be auctioned to help towards raising this sum.

Before then though it will be on display in a local art gallery in July/August as part of a special exhibition to celebrate Keiron’s 18th birthday.
