Ribwort Plantain (Plantago lanceolata)

More grass cutting!  This time not "jungle fighting" as I was yesterday, this was our own grass which has been mown semi regularly.  Following my observations on the Lodge's flora I had a walk round before I started.

This Ribwort plantain caught my eye.  The way the stamens stand out from the head has always fascinated.  I was surprised years ago when I learned it was edible.  It is part of a traditional Austrian medicine being used for herbal teas and externally for insect bites and skin problems.  Wildlife like the seeds and eat the leaves.
