Dunlin

One of our commonest waders, if not the commonest in winter with over a third of a million in the UK, when in full breeding plumage they are an atractive little bird that makes, to my ears, a very odd noise.This one was enjoying the machair on Baleshare,as were Ruadh and myself.
The wind dropped and the sun went so the mist nets went up to try and catch birds to ring in the garden. Four hours later, I had retrapped two Chaffinches and ringed a young and clearly inexperienced Stonechat. Not a huge return for my efforts....
