Dribs and Drabs of 2014

The Teacher

Today's blip comes from a trip to a local "fishing hole", or at least a whole bunch of holes. In the Great White North, and particularly in Nova Scotia (I never saw much of this in Southern Ontario), ice fishing is a popular winter pastime. When the ice is thick enough, huts and holes pop up everywhere!!

This image is also being submitted to a Facebook site that proposes "photo assignments" for fun, learning, and getting people out to shoot and share. The most recent assignment is B&W "street photography." A number of possibilities come to mind, but they wanted us to capture a human interaction (with the environment, others, etc.) in black and white.

I talked to a number of the fishing folks in this particular group. The youngster (Scott) was out for his first time, the man in camouflage is an ice fishing "lifer" from Quebec. Without knowing what is happening, but basing my interpretation on my conversations, the "teacher" is imparting his passion and knowledge to a young man that could have been home playing video games in comfort and warmth. Kudos Scott, Kudos!
