Starburst

Making an interesting photo of flowers is tough, what can be said that hasn't been done a thousand times? Exposing for the highlights, the background is consequently dark. Raising the exposure afterwards is surprisingly possible, but only serves to expose unwanted details that, in this case, detract from the subject.

The extreme contrast of white on black really brings out the detail of the flowers and creates a bold statement.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, the extra appears to me a world in miniature. Delicate petals and details disappear into a soft backdrop, courtesy of the 400mm focal length.
