Why the Fence?

I spotted this Dragonfly climbing up the garden fence this morning. I told it I have a lovely pond with lots of plant life just round the corner but it seemed unimpressed and later it was gone and I haven't seen it around my pond yet!
I am sure one of you clever wildlife people can tell me what type it is. I looked on the internet but just got more and more confused!
