Throwing a switch

Our dishwasher was fixed today by a very helpful Covid secure engineer. The text to say he was 45 minutes away (within the forecast 3 hour time frame) was very welcome and he did arrive early. However, it had not prevented an early rise in order to be ready for the possible first time slot of 07:15.

He was away by 08:45 having repositioned and secured the control board behind the front panel, which had become dislodged.

It felt appropriate as the Prime Minister threw on the switch in England for the resumption of many businesses and more proximity being allowed, with mitigating measures.

Whether the off switch will have to be thrown again we will wait and see either for a national (England) level or even more locally. But listening to the caution in the scientists’ commentary and their concerns about the virus spreading over the winter and into spring that may be a possibility.

It would be so much harder to go back into lockdown of sorts. Just like having a dishwasher, when it breaks down, doing the dishes seems even more of a chore.

Some of the statistics at the last regular daily briefing ( in England) also gave pause for thought.. if I picked it up correctly, just over 5% of the population are thought to have caught Covid-19. We don’t know how many Are immune or are asymptomatic. But it means there are many, many people who have yet to be exposed and just because the risk measures may have been eased, if you get the virus tomorrow or in 6 months time your body may react with the same intensity as many of those who caught it in March/ April/ May / June.

While in Scotland we seem to be looking to have a tighter control of the virus with the possible aim of elimination, we will have to wait and see how and when restrictions are eased further here.

So it is still face coverings on and do not throw off caution.
