River Dee at Tongland

Today's the day ……………………. to paddle your own canoe

We saw this chap the other night, loading his canoe into the back of his van in a nearby lay-by and had a bit of chat with him.

He's a keen canoeist but he hadn't been on the water since the start of Lockdown back in March.  He had missed it greatly - and was worried that he would forget how to do it if he didn't get some practice in soon.  He said that one of his favourite bits of white water was on the River Dee just upstream from the Telford Bridge, when the tide was high and the sluice gates from the dam above the Hydro Power Scheme were open.

So when we saw this chap tonight in that exact spot, battling with the rapids - not always successfully (see extra) - it just had to be him.  And sure enough, he gave us a cheery wave as we watched him from the bridge ……………….
