As there was a woodpecker at the bird feeder this afternoon I thought I would spend a little time photographing him. However, by the time I had got my gear up he had disappeared behind the feeder and all I saw from time to time was a wee peek of his head. Fairly soon after a group of pigeons arrived and one of them was determined to get seed from the bird feeder and one of my shots shows just how hard he had to work to stay there. The pigeons were eventually chased off when a trio of magpies arrived and one of them also tried to use the bird feeder rather unsuccessfully. To balance this horde of marauding birds I felt I had to include a shot of the small birds I actually welcome at the bird feeder. goldfinches etc.
