Anne's Daily Encounters

Cretan Palikari

Another day of driving along Crete's heartland, the mountains and monasteries and at last visiting friends near Iraklion before heading home in Chania again.

This aged gent willingly posed for me and I put this photo of his up for blip as you can see he's tip top dressed in Cretan outfit, that is including the boots. He's wearing black, like everybody whom we met in the village of Anogia is wearing black clothes since 3 weeks when from 2 families a relative died in a vendetta... honour and pride was involved ofcourse.

Before reaching Anogia we'd visited a monastery in its neighbourhood and when arriving there we heard loud male voices shouting and wondered if the monks had gone crazy... but then when we went in we found six men and a priest shouting and speaking out loud... Sweetheart had understood their words of anger;  two groups of men who accused one another of thieving from their flocks of sheep.

OMG the same story?!!  At least today's angry men were wiser than the others of a few weeks ago... they'd turned to the priest for arbitration!

N.B. apart from the escape from Vendetta... listen to the link with Dimitris telling us all in Greek-English how and why we got this pandemic... Hilarious! LOL ! listen the 6 minutes to his explanation!
