Castagne

The sweet chestnut blooms so late. After the olive. And yet makes so much fruit. I wonder why it developed that niche sequencing.

Heat building here. Stuck up a ladder under the ceiling painting the spare room - the one that got away during lockdown.

Time’s arrow strangely distorted. Four months since lockdown began. Can’t work out if we lost a year or it was yesterday. Somehow the familiar markers of time’s passage have been shuffled around. Add to that my mum’s passing, an end that cancelled out those expected trips even though they couldn’t happen. Even garden time is weirded up by strange weather patterns. We know the seasons and their progress by food - broad bean, radish, spinach, onion, potato, lettuce, courgette, cherry, strawberry, pea, tomato, raspberry, pepper, aubergine, gherkin and on.

I’m watering everyday now.
