It's all a matter of scale

This tiny turtle, clutching a lotus blossom in his mouth and floating on a lotus leaf cannot be as small as the size of the netsuke leads the eye to believe - lotus blossom and leaves are not so small! The detail on the underside of the leaf is as beautiful as that on the top but the delicacy of the leaf suggests that it might not have lasted long if worn regularly!
