Focus-stack practise

Some days are so wet that outdoor photography simply isn't possible. Today in the Lake District we had over 6" (150mm) of rain - it never stopped, never even eased off.

I took the time to explore the menus in my new(ish) camera, and found automatic focus stacking! Whilst it doesn't merge the pictures, it takes all the shots and changes the autofocus between each image. You can set anything from 1(?) - 300 photos! I'm planning a YouTube video on focus stacking, so needed the practise. This leaf on one of our house plants was shot at f4.5, and needed 22 photos to get it sharp from the front edge to the back of the leaf, whilst shooting at f4.5 allowed the background to stay soft.

Large to see the sharpness
