New beginnings

Mik

Another lovely day with my family and my 84-year old former colleague and mentor Jacques, nicknamed Mik, a short version of his long Polish- origin name. Here he is cooking a plum clafoutis in my kitchen.

Together we went to meet Anne Beaumanoir, an amazing 97-year old woman who was in the French resistance in the same group as Mik’s father (who was shot by the Germans). She later trained as a neurobiologist, escaped from jail where she was for fighting for Algeria's independence with FLN, lived in many countries including Stalin's Russia and is still politically active in our village where she now lives. She is a "just amongst nations" and a book was recently written about her life.
(see https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Beaumanoirhttps://www.seuil.com/ouvrage/annette-une-epopee-anne-weber/9782021450422).
Incredible nice and welcoming woman!
