Hole of Horcum

Looking for a different walk today we journeyed up on t’moor. Lots of people journeying to and from Whitby and the coast. Fortunately the car park was only about half full.

We walked above the Hole of Horcum as a light  unforecast shower past over. We then dropped down a level onto the area above Newton Dale. The valley is used by the NYMR for trains to Goathland and Grosmont.

The sun broke through as we turned back towards the car noting Fylingdales in the distance. Spotted Skylarks and Sone Chats but these were out done by this Highland calf. I just liked its markings with a white streak down its back to the tip of its tail. Fortunately the herd was placid and allowed us to pass through the gate and back to the car park. As we climbed up another shower started but we got back to the car before it turned heavier.

Despite the rain Mr Whippy the ice cream van was still doing a brisk trade. Well worth our trip out.
