Derby Market Hall

I was working in Derby again today and took a lunchtime walk into the City Centre. I was looking for a passport photo booth because I am in the process of renewing my passport, but couldn't find one anywhere. It is surprising how few remain these days.

My search took me through some parts of the city which I haven't explored before, including the rather fine Grade II listed Market Hall. It was designed by Melbourne engineer Rowland Mason Ordish and opened in 1866. It has an impressive iron and glass tunnel vaulted roof supported by iron columns from a Derby foundry. In 1989 it was restored and reopened by HRH the Princess Margaret.
