Summer in Yorkshire!

We took about 2.5 hours to reach our North York Moors campsite, having managed the notorious Sutton Bank where “only” 74 vehicles had come to grief this year and arrived not much ahead of Sheila and Mike coming across from further west in Yorkshire. The site is fine but is just beside a very busy and fast road - Pickering to Whitby. I don’t know why it is so busy all day on Tuesday.

We tried to walk up the road but it was impossible as there was no verge and the traffic was too close, so that was abandoned in favour of tea and cake. We were freezing, but sat under Mike’s awning. which gave protection from the rain. It was 10 degrees but S and M
Didn’t feel comfortable about coming inside our van though they will look after grandchildren in August. It’s all about what risks people are willing to take.

Despite the weather we had a lovely alfresco meal. We had a G and T with nibbles. S had made a spinach quiche and I provided the potatoes and salad then strawberries, nectarines and blueberries with cream. We had wine. We had sloe vodka made by S, all in aid of keeping us warm of course.

Off to bed, thermals on.
