She is Washington DC’s mayor and I’ve had several opportunities to photograph her at various events I cover. She has the strength of conviction on causes dear to my heart and the courage to stand up to the weasel in the White House. She took him on when he deployed military to disperse protesters and she authorized the huge BLM mural right outside the windows of the White House. Impressive.

She is also part of a series I’m running on Instagram, where I’ve decided to post a daily tribute from my collection of street portraits of African Americans who have made an impression on me :)
